SUMMARY:St Patricks Day Parades
DESCRIPTION:Please note: Mullingar Town Band are fully booked for St Patricks Day 2024. If you would like to book the band for future events please contact us\n  \nMullingar Town Band is thrilled to unveil our program for the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day parades.\nOur day begins with the Tullamore Parade at 11:30 AM\, where we’ll proudly lead the procession from the Bridge Centre to the Kilbeggan bridge. Following this\, at 12:30 PM\, we’ll join the Clara Parade\, led by the Clara Town Band. It’s worth noting that Bertie McMahon has been organising this parade since the late 80s\, and MTB has been a regular participant over the years. \nNext on our journey is the Moate Parade\, starting at 1:30 PM. We were warmly welcomed during our first participation in 2023\, and the positive reception has spurred our return this year. The parade kicks off from the gap house\, promising a lively celebration. \nIn Mullingar\, after a hiatus\, the town parade made a triumphant comeback in 2023. Last year\, we were excited to welcome St. Patrick arriving by barge on the canal on the 16th. While we couldn’t participate in the main parade due to prior commitments\, we’re delighted that the town now boasts a full parade again\, commencing at 3:00 PM from the green bridge and concluding at Nugents corner. \nWrapping up our local parades\, we head to Castlepollard for their parade at 5:00 PM\, a tradition we’ve upheld for over 30 years. The warm reception we receive each year is a testament to the strong community spirit in Castlepollard. \nDespite a packed schedule with five parades in one day\, our journey doesn’t end there. On Monday\, March 18th\, we’ll be off to the Limerick International Band Championship. Please note seating is limited. \nMullingar Concert Band\nCONDUCTOR: Vincent Dolan \nThe Mullingar Concert Band was launched in Autumn 2021 with the aim of encouraging adult musicians of varying standards to join together to play music\, learn\, socialise and have fun. \nIt is a part of\, but also a natural extension of the renowned Mullingar Town Band with many of its members having previously played with the Town Band over the years. The group practice a variety of concert band music from different genres and perform from three times a year\, as well as teaming up with the marching band for more regular engagements. \nSweet Tunes Choir\nCHOIR DIRECTOR: Angela Lynch \nSweet Tunes Choir is now in its eleventh year under the musical direction of Angie Lynch. From very small beginnings of some eight members\, it has now grown to a sizeable membership of 55 plus energetic and fun-loving retirees. \nDuring its eleven-year history the group has grown in confidence and has outgrown not only its unison singing but also\, it’s two- part singing – and nowadays boasts a strong mixed voice ensemble singing in three parts. \nThe Group meets once a week for a two-hour session in Mullingar Arts Centre by kind invitation of Sean Lynch\, Centre Director. \nThe choir has previously participated in the Mayo Choral Festival and this is its third visit to the Navan Choral Festival. Sweet Tunes are in high demand locally in Mullingar and sing at many charitable fund raisers. Featuring Mullingar Concert Band with special guests Siofra Byrne and Johnny Irwin. \nUnder the baton of legendary conductor and great friend of the Mullingar Concert Band\, Vincent Dolan\, the Band are looking forward to performing in the beautiful\, festive\, surroundings of Bloomfield House Hotel. With a program filled with Christmas favourites such as The Snowman\, Sleigh Ride and Fairytale of New York to everyone’s favourite carols\, this promises to be the perfect way to ease into the Christmas spirit. \nThe Band will be joined on the night by special guest vocalists Johnny Irwin and Siofra Byrne. \nThere will be a raffle on the night with plenty of great prizes. The Mullingar Concert Band was launched in Autumn 2021 with the aim of encouraging adult musicians of varying standards to join together to play music\, learn\, socialise and have fun. It is a part of\, but also a natural extension of the renowned Mullingar Town Band with many of it’s members having previously played with the Town Band over the years. \n\nSiofra Byrne\nSiofra Byrne is a member of the Mullingar Concert Band and plays Clarinet. Siofra is also a mezzosoprano and choral conductor  living in Mullingar. Specialising in vocal performance during her undergraduate Music studies in Maynooth University under the direction of Professor Gerard Gillen\, she has performed as a soloist with Maynooth University Chamber Choir\, Maynooth Choral Society and the RTE Philharmonic Choir. Her interests lie in German Lieder and in Liturgical Music\, as well as choral music of every genre. She directs the award winning Convent of Mercy Roscommon Chamber Choir\, previous winners of the RTE Lyric FM Choirs for Christmas competition\, Navan Choral Festival and Feis Ceoil. In 2014 she received the Conductor Award as part of the All Island School Choir competition which featured on RTE television. Siofra currently sings with Mullingar Cathedral Choir. \nJohnny Irwin\nJohnny Irwinis well known to the people of Mullingar as ‘The Singing Postman’. Now a retired postman\, Johnny has been performing for over 50 years and continues to do so. He is known for his crooning voice and has been dubbed the Frank Sinatra of Mullingar. We’re especially excited to be joined by the Sweet Tunes Choir—always a delight to collaborate with. And that’s not all—we are honoured to welcome Professor Barry Bernhardt from Florida International University to this concert. Professor Bernhardt\, a renowned figure in the world of symphonic concert bands\, will be joining us as guest conductor for one piece on the night. Having such a distinguished musician conduct our band is a huge privilege\, and we can’t wait to share this moment with our audience. \nMullingar Town Band – Conductor: Vincent Dolan \nThe Mullingar Concert Band was launched in Autumn 2021 with the aim of encouraging adult musicians of varying standards to join together to play music\, learn\, socialise and have fun. \nIt is a part of\, but also a natural extension of the renowned Mullingar Town Band with many of its members having previously played with the Town Band over the years. The group practice a variety of concert band music from different genres and perform from three times a year\, as well as teaming up with the marching band for more regular engagements. \nSweet Tunes Choir – Director: Angela Lynch \nNow in it’s 12th year under the excellent directorship of Angela Lynch\, this award winning choir have come from small beginnings of 8 members to what you see today. The choir is made up principally of young\, vibrant\, enthusiastic and fun loving retirees. \nThe group meet once a week for a two hour rehearsal in the Mullingar Arts Centre by kind invitation of Sean Lynch\, Centre Director. \nGuest Conductor: Barry Bernhardt \nWe are delighted to welcome to Mullingar\, Professor Barry Bernhardt and his lovely wife Laurie who have just travelled from Paris to attend our concert tonight. Barry recently retired as the Director of Music at the Florida International University. A good friend of Vincent’s for many years\, he is one of the USA’s leading Band Directors of community\, high school and university marching and wind symphonic bands.
